Sadio Mané Reveals Why He Turned Down Manchester United Move
Sadio Mané has opened up about the moment he rejected a move to Manchester United, explaining why he chose not to join the Premier League giants at the time.
According to Mané, United made direct contact and he even spoke with then-manager Louis van Gaal. The club already had big names like Wayne Rooney, Ángel Di María, Memphis Depay, and Robin van Persie in their attack — which made the forward question his role at Old Trafford.

Mané:
“Manchester United called me that time. I was talking to Van Gaal. Rooney was there. Di María was there. Depay was there.
When they failed to get me, they bought Martial.”
He added that his main concern was playing time:
“My question was: you have Depay, Rooney, Di María, Van Persie… so where am I going to play? Because me, I want to play.”
Mané would later join Southampton, then make a historic move to Liverpool, where he became one of the club’s greatest modern attackers and a Champions League winner.
